Involvement

On this page, you can find short descriptions of my on campus and off campus roles, jobs, and internships I have had while a student at Clemson University. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via the information on my contact page!

Phi Delta Epsilon

Phi Delta Epsilon is an international medical and pre-medical fraternity with the mission of creating future physicians of integrity and ethics. Through this fraternity I have made life long friends and had some of my most rewarding shadowing and philanthropic experiences to date!

Aspire to Be Well

Aspire to Be Well, housed within Clemson's Healthy Campus Department, is a 90 minute peer-led course taught to all freshmen, bridge, and transfer students with the goal of promoting happiness, healthfulness, and safety on Clemson's campus. I facilitated these sessions spanning topics of Bystander Intervention, Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Usage, and Sexual Health. I also had the opportunity to complete a COVID-19 research project with my peer facilitators and presented this research at Clemson's Annual Focus on Creative Inquiry Event.

PAL Leader

As a Peer Assisted Learning Leader, I worked closely with the PAL program as well as Dr. John Cummings to provide supplemental instruction to Anatomy and Physiology students. PAL is free for all students and serves as an accessible resource for some of Clemson's most difficult undergraduate courses. This has by far been the most influential role I have held, and has shown me my love and commitment to improving education.

Clemson LIFE Volunteer

Clemson LIFE is the University's transitional program for young men and women with intellectual disabilities. I have held a number of volunteer roles for Clemson LIFE, but most notably I helped with weekly cooking club. One night per week, students would learn to cook meals on their own. These activities focused on motor skill development and learning proper kitchen safety.

CEDC Member

As a CEDC member, I worked with two different project groups; Community Health Surveillance and the Cultural Engagement Club. With CHS, I utilized my French speaking skills in contact with Haitians. As a group, we worked to implement simple and sustainable changes which improved data collection and analysis for Cange's hypertension management program. Hypertension is a leading cause of death worldwide and is incredibly prevalent in Haiti, so effective intervention is needed. With CEC, I helped to co-develop a curriculum surrounding empathy and cultural competence for fellow CEDC members.

UPIC Intern

As a UPIC intern, I worked with Clemson's Healthy Campus department over the summer. Aspire to Be Well is housed within this department, so I aided staff with tabling events as well as coding and categorizing national and Clemson level student health data.

Patient Care Tech

As a patient care technician at Excel Rehab and Sports, I operated as a liaison between the patients and physical/occupational therapists. I would guide patients from waiting room to their warm-up exercises/machine. Additionally, I would clean beds and equipment in between assisting PTs/OTs with exercises.

Barista and Closer for Spill the Beans

Spill the Beans is one of Clemson's hidden gems, an ice cream and coffee shop tucked on a side street downtown. As an employee, I worked myself up to a more managerial position, and over saw shifts of 3-4 other employees. At the end of each night, I closed the cash register and distributed tips to staff.

Meningitis B Action Project Ambassador

As a Meningitis B Ambassador, I worked with the Meningitis B Action Project to develop effective prevention based materials for college students. This included voting on poster designs and discussing potential curriculum development.

Barista and Closer for Spill the Beans

During the summers, one of my favorite activities was volunteering with the Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic. BIFMC is located on Johns Island, SC and cares for a large population of the Charleston area who fall in the insurance gap; not receiving healthcare through their employer, but making just enough income/being of age to not qualify for Medicare or Medicaid. I greeted patients and directed them to their nursing staff or doctors.
